I am not 100% well but am drinking a lot of tea and soup! The doctor has assured me I am not contagious. What started off as laryngitis turned into pneumonia and bronchitis. I am trying to not talk too much, which is a challenge for me as I do like to talk!
This week we only have four days of school. Remembrance Day is on Friday which means no school for students. Room 5 shared what they knew about Remembrance Day. These are the things we know:
This week we only have four days of school. Remembrance Day is on Friday which means no school for students. Room 5 shared what they knew about Remembrance Day. These are the things we know:
- November 11 is when "we" won the war
- Poppy
- Big war
- Peace
- Show care
- Freedom
- Remember
- Flanders Fields
- Soldiers fought in the war
- Visit soldiers
- Visit soldiers
We felt sadness and also felt grateful because we can experience freedom.
In math we worked on subitizing, which means to recognize the number of objects or dots (up to 10) at a glance. The goal is to not have to count each dot. Some students shared that they "just know" what the number is and others said they recognized groups of 2s or 5s which helped to figure out the total number.
We continue to experiment with colours and talked about the words lighter and darker. Students who were wearing blue tops, for example, lined up from the lightest shade to the darkest shade of blue. Then we took paint chip samples and tried to match them to what friends were wearing.
In our journals, after brainstorming examples, students wrote at least one sentence about peace. We had some interesting examples!
Please note that everyone should have received their individual picture and a class picture. Today when I came in I found a few class picture envelopes and do not know to whom they belong.
Also, if you did not receive a November calendar, let me know.
