Hello!

Reminders:

  • Toonie for Terry: donations are being accepted for the Terry Fox Run tomorrow. We will be outside from 10:00 am – 10:45 am.
  • Friday: tomorrow is an Early Dismissal day which means 8:00 am to 11:00 am.
  • Scholastic: Book orders are due tomorrow. Please set up the parent pay option if you have not already.

Today we talked about comprehension strategies when reading. The students were guided to think about what the author is telling us when we read, and to stop often to "check for understanding". This means we want to be sure we are understanding what we read. I modeled what this looks like by reading a couple pages at a time, then stopping to ask “Do I understand what is happening in this story? Does the text make sense to me?” The students thought I was comprehending, and told me to keep reading.


We also explored patterns. Logan said a pattern is when something starts over and over again. Cassidee shared that in music we also have patterns like “ta – tee – tee – ta – tee – tee.” Here are some pictures. Can you see the patterns? Can you spot our non-example of a pattern?
