Reading Buddies/Terry Fox Run/Scholastic

Good afternoon,

All three Grade 1 classes have been practicing for Friday’s Terry Fox Run. We can see their stamina building up. Students know that it is okay if they cannot run for the entire time, and that they can jog and walk along the way. Just don't give up!

A couple students handed money over to me saying “You can just take it,” however I need to ensure it is a donation. Please write a little note or send me an email nmcokar@cbe.ab.ca so I know.

Today was Reading Buddy day, our first of the year! Room 5 is paired up with a Grade 5 class. Our class shared with their buddies the three ways to read a book, and the older students seemed impressed and were happy to try the three different ways.

I continue to share with the students my expectations for when we are in the classroom, and am really focusing on rules and routines. Together we started on another Pillar of Care – Care for Learning – and are going to think about this one a little bit for some examples of how each of us can demonstrate this important pillar. I feel this fits in nicely with our classroom rules and will result in a positive learning environment.

After a discussion on what they were curious to learn this year, the students started to draw pictures and write “I want to learn about…” I think it is important that student voice is heard. Wait until I share the list of great ideas!

Scholastic orders due by Friday!

Ms. Cokar
