June 9

Good afternoon,

In math, students continue to explore adding and subtracting. Many know that when subtracting, the answer has to be a smaller number. When you're adding two numbers, we agree the answer will be a bigger/higher/larger number.

Yesterday we read a book called Who Has These Feet? and today we read Who Has This Tail? before revealing another part of our Mystery Animal. There were some interesting guesses, such as "I think those are human feet!" and "Maybe there are two animals standing together." Do you know what the animal is now that you see a little more?

Science (and a little math) was incorporated into Art as we created butterflies. The first step was to use paint to paint a line in the center of a piece of paper. Then, we made a letter B. Some of us also drew one antenna. Next we folded the paper and pressed down to imprint the other side of the paper. Third, once dry we used pastels to colour. The reason we painted one side is because butterflies are symmetrical. Do you know which group a butterfly belongs to? It is not a fish, bird, amphibian or mammal. The steps

During Maker Time, some students created interesting "projects". Below is Carman's tool she would use to pull up dandelions from the ground.

Arinanna and Nathaniel worked together to build a community.

On Monday, please wear something blue and green, if you have clothes in those colour families.

On Friday, June 23, the three Grade 1 classes will be on a field trip to the Calgary Zoo. If you have your volunteer clearance, please let me know ASAP.
