We have been fortunate the weather has been cooperative. This means we have had the opportunity to have gym outside. Students learned how to play kickball. They understand the premise, and with some gentle reminders to "Run to the next base!" have scored a few runs.
Ms. Jen was kind enough to write animal classifications on chart paper for Room 5. And she even cut out pictures of animals for the students. The ones she cut out, plus the ones the students did the previous day, were handed out. Students had to decide on the animal's classification and then glue it on the correct paper. There was some fabulous discussion overheard as my scientists were carefully looking at characteristics and discussing with friends their thoughts on classifying animals. Here are some photos taken:
The other afternoon Room 5 went outside to use sidewalk chalk and write some sight words. Some students expressed interest in drawing animals. As this was directly related to what we were learning about in the morning, my response was "Sure!" Can you tell what the words say, and what animals are in the pictures?

On Friday, June 23, the three Grade 1 classes will be on a field trip to the Calgary Zoo. If you have your volunteer clearance, please let me know ASAP.
