Room 5 has been learning about animals. Students learned that animals can be classified into groups. Do you know "classified" means? We discussed invertebrates and vertebrates, and how an animal is classified into each of those two groups based on whether or not it has a spine. Ask your son or daughter another word for spine. Today in the school we had a special guest, Ian Porteous, who presented the "Cultural Wheel". The four quadrants of this Cultural Wheel are Folklore, Community, Constructivism, and Celebration. He held workshops for a few classes at a time and then later in the day the whole school came together. We learned dances from three traditions; European, First Nations, Metis.
Today was Ms. Hayes' last day at Beddington Heights. We wish her well in her new role as Principal at Penbrooke Meadows. It is also Ms. Laird's last day as Music/Grade 5 teacher; she will be acting Assistant Principal the remainder of this school year. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Gray who will be our Music teacher for June.
