Happy first day of May!
Where has the time gone? I was counting the number of days and was surprised at how many are remaining in this school year.
This morning in gym students had fitness stations to rotate through including burpees, squats, bench dips, etc. We are hoping as the weather cooperates that we will be able to have gym outside. As it is usually chilly in the morning, it is recommended students wear layers.
Do you know what doubles are? In math I introduced the idea of doubles. As students filled in the answers I noticed a pattern, and so did a few students. Ally said, "The answers are like skip counting!" and everyone was excited that they remembered how to skip count by 2s. Ask your son or daughter if they can tell you the double of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
As our white board is full of colourful sight words, I am using them in as many creative and fun ways as possible. We played a game of Sight Word Hang Spider (a spin on the traditional hangman game). I drew the lines to represent the letters of the words in my sentence, taken from the Word Wall. "My family is funny." Students had to guess the letters and every incorrect guess meant I had to draw a part of the spider. They then paired up to try this themselves. With a marker and whiteboard one partner wrote the blank lines for a sight word and the other partner guessed. Such fun!
