Good afternoon,
Today was a busy day! Have you ever played "Deep Blue Sea"? Ask your son or daughter how this game is played. It involves sharks, whales, and seaweed! The seaweed, sharks, and whales had to be reminded that in the deep blue sea, living things are a wee bit quieter than grade ones 🤣
I have a cupcake in our classroom that transforms into many different "flavours". During math, it became the Calculating Cupcake. The student tossing the cupcake to a friend has to ask a math question. The student who answered the question passes it to someone else and asks a question. I had to remind them we are not quite ready to multiply, as we're only adding and subtracting, until a student pointed out that on the 100 chart, it is 10 x 10. Smarties in my class, making connections!
As we were computing, we had an unannounced fire drill! The entire school was out in under two minutes. Half of my class did a great job of staying calm and not talking, which means the other half was busy talking. It is very important everyone remains silent while calmly walking out the school and remains quiet during roll call and until the three bells are heard. This way, instructions are heard.
In Music, I learned that some students are shouting not singing. Ms. Laird has reminded everyone of the difference and I hope this advice is followed as we have a special song to sing - not shout - at the Spring Concert.
Teacher's Pet visited the Grade 1 classes all day and helped us build something. I will post photos later. Thank you to our fabulous volunteers: Ms. Amanda, M. Connie, Ms. Diana, and Ms. Lily. We would not have accomplished as much without your support.
Is your son or daughter logging in to their Raz Kids and Mathletics accounts? This is their homework, in addition to the home reading. 15 minutes of each is recommended. Both are fabulous programs and we are fortunate to have memberships this year! If you do not have usernames and passwords, please let me know.
Finally, I wanted to share that you will see a notice today from our Assistant Principal, Ms. Hayes. She will be taking on a new role as Principal at Penbrook Meadows School. Congratulations Ms. Hayes!
