May 23

Good afternoon!

Did everyone have a nice long weekend? In the morning when we had our sharing circle, students had some interesting stories to tell friends!

Do you know what a chameleon is? My students shared it is an animal with sticky tongue, it eats bugs and has special feet to help it climb. And it can be invisible! And it changes colours when it looks at something...can you believe that? Have you read the book The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle? This book is about a chameleon who thinks he is just plain boring and then he encounters a zoo! Ask your son or daughter to tell you what happened when he wished he was something else.

This student had a "sticky tongue" like a chameleon :-)

As a class, we created our own mixed up animal. Students suggested an animal and a specific body part. We haven't quite decided on a name. Next, everyone had an opportunity to create their own "mixed-up" animal. We cut out pictures of animals and parts and well...see for yourself!

Our seeds are growing! I was really confused why they were leaning towards the window. Do you know why? Maybe someone will share the answer with you!

What happens when one of our senses is missing? The class thinks that other senses are used, and they are correct. Today we talked about what happens if we can't see. The suggestions of wearing contacts, glasses, two pairs of glasses, etc were great. We learned that blind people use something called braille. Each student received a braille alphabet and were able to write their own name!

Spring Concert is this Thursday!!!
