Good afternoon,
I found some math dice in the learning commons and the students had an opportunity to explore adding or subtracting with their partners. Each pair had a 10-frame sheet with two frames, a die, a spinner with numbers 0-9, and counters if wanted. Some used the ten-frames to help them add when they came across larger numbers such as 8 + 8.
Today our reading buddies visited Room 5 twice. In the morning it was to read with the class and in the afternoon to show us how to use the laptops. Each student has a unique CBE ID (the Grade 5s said they have memorized their numbers) which they use to logon to the laptops. Once they had access, buddies showed us how to navigate Mathletics. Here are some comments the students wanted to share:
Amy - I learned you can do some puzzles.
Matty - I played against Americans in the around the world game.
Arinanna - Playing people around the world was too hard so we tried a different game that was easier. I got some points.
Max - I saw how many points I have.
Cohen - Max and Ethan were playing at the same time as me.
John - I was "versus" J.C. and we tied.
Carman - I got 26 points in the challenge!
We also learned how to logoff and the importance of why we need to do so.
