Good afternoon!
In gymnastics the students had the opportunity to rotate through various stations, practicing a number of skills. The belly flop and climbing ladders seemed pretty popular!
Who would have thought art, language arts, science and math could blend together? Students walked around the classroom asking each other for an example of their primary colour. So, for example, instead of saying "My favourite primary colour is yellow," the response was "An example is the sun." We got tripped up when someone said "An example of my favourite primary colour is an apple." Did the student mean red or yellow? Someone said it could not be a green Granny Smith apple. Do you know why (trick question!)? Some students drew a picture of the examples while others tried writing their words. Our next step is to graph our answers.
Rock-paper-scissors is a fun game, and more fun when it is "Rock-paper-scissors-math!" On the word "math" we placed 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 fingers on our palms for our partner to see. The person who correctly added their fingers plus their partner's fingers won the round. I was challenged quite a bit because the students didn't think I could add as well as them! In one round Arinanna showed two fingers and I showed three fingers and shouted "4!" but then we put our fingers together and realised the answer was actually 5. Try it at home!
For our Community flip book we wrote the word home on one circle and illustrated what home meant to us. Some drew a house, others coloured hearts, and some showed their families.
We also read a big book that was an interesting version of Goldilocks. The students are enjoying sight words so much that every time I turned a page, hands were flying up volunteering to share a sight word they recognized. Good job!
As a reminder, it is Early Dismissal tomorrow and the students will be dismissed at 11:00.
Did you submit your swim forms and payment?
Report cards will be sent home January 27.
Have a great evening,
Ms. Cokar
