January 24

Good afternoon!

As this is the last week of gymnastics, students have been participating in Mission Impossible. This is an opportunity for them to showcase their gymnastics skills as they maneuver around obstacles throughout the gym. What's the catch? They have to move through silently, and if they accidentally knock something over, like a bowling pin, they are to start over again.

This morning we learned about Chinese New Year, which is on January 28. Did you know there was a monster named Nian? Ask your son or daughter when he used to come out to scare the villagers, who gave the villages advice, and how the villagers scared the monster away.

In science we used colourful "glasses" that were either primary or secondary colours. The round part had three sections - transparent, translucent, and opaque. The students had fun exploring and creating colours by putting two colors together.

We read a book called Magpie Magic which was a wordless picture book. It was a story that included hands, a pencil, paper, pencil crayons, and a magpie.  We're not sure if Ms. Cokar read the pictures correctly.

The students are doing a pretty good job with Read to Self. We are still trying to build stamina by reading for at least 10 minutes.

Home reading books are to be exchanged daily. This program has not ended! Students are reminded to exchange their books daily from our home reading bin. Books are read at home, and the sheet is to have the book recorded and a parent signature. Books should be different each day.

Reminders:
* Library book exchange tomorrow
* Report cards will be sent home January 27
* Swim forms and payments due January 30

Have a great evening and see you tomorrow!

Ms. Cokar
