January 26

Good afternoon,

Today was our fourth day of Mission Impossible. Did you know that the students earn points for squeezing a chicken? I know that sounds strange, so you will have to ask your son or daughter about this. Tomorrow is the last day of Mission Impossible!

In math we started to graph Room 5's Favourite Vegetables. Carrots were very popular! The students learned that a title is helpful as it tells what information the graph is sharing.

We continue to talk about community and how there is something that connects a person to a community so they belong. For example, Room 5 students are a community, and when we are together with Room 3 and 4 we are a larger community of Grade 1 students. And an even larger community of all students who are in Grade 1 in our city.

On a map we pinpointed Canada and China. How can we celebrate Chinese New Year if we aren't in China? We learned that you can celebrate no matter where you are, as the Chinese community has shared this with the world! We also talked about how some things that happen during Chinese New Year also happen during January 1. Ally said it reminds her of Canada Day celebrations.

Reminders:
January 27 - Report Cards
January 30 - Swim forms due
January 31 - Pillars of Care assembly 1:45

Have a great evening,

Ms. Cokar
