Happy New Year!

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

Happy New Year to you! I hope everyone enjoyed their Winter Break.

As we start this new year, Room 5 will be reviewing Pillars of Care, school and classroom rules, and expectations. This is really important, especially after a long break from routines that have been established.

This week in math students will work on number sense. Today we learned about comparing the number of objects and figuring out how to determine if there are more of one than the other. For example if you see 5 stars and 4 circles, how many more stars are there than circles? We also talked about the word "fewer". Nathaniel said it means "a little less". What a great explanation!

For the literacy block we discussed important points to remember when writing. We know that sentences should start with uppercase letters, there should be spaces between words, and a period, question mark, or exclamation mark to end a sentence.

Amy and Logan each read the class a fun story. Amy read the pictures and Logan read the words. It is great to see students reading in different ways.

Tomorrow is Library book exchange day. Please remember to return books if you have not already.

Lastly, there were a number of students who did not eat their lunch. The students had an entire 30 minutes to eat before heading to the rooms for the remainder of lunch time. Please speak to your son or daughter about eating snack and lunch, so they are not doing so when we are supposed to be learning.

Thank you and have a great day!

Ms. Cokar
