Good afternoon,
In Math students were given their name on a strip of paper, with each letter in its own square. They had to count how many letters were in their name, cut the squares and glue correctly into their math books. The next step was to find someone else in the class with the same number of letters! Tomorrow we will try to graph this information.
I introduced today's sight words and the students tried writing sentences using as many words as they could. The words for this week are: and, as, big, let, to. Can you use these words in one or two sentences? I know some of my students can!
Today we tried rotating literacy centres, something that will happen as we move forward. Students read to self, used an iPad (letters, words, stories), worked with something from our literacy bins, or worked with me. After about 15 minutes, we rotated. I explained this is something we will be consistently doing, and if they don't get their favourite centre today (working with me) they will get it at some point in the week.
We talked about lockdowns, as the whole school will practice an internal lockdown on Wednesday at 1:00 (please see notice sent home today). Our class practised a couple of times and a few things we need to work on include moving faster but quietly, and not talking. Some students were being really silly and I talked to everyone about how important and serious a lockdown situation can be.
Tomorrow is our Pillars of Care assembly at 1:45!
Thank you to everyone who returned their swim forms and payments in by the due date, which was today. Swimming will begin next week!
Reminders:
* Library books are due for Wednesday!
* No school for students this Friday!
* Home reading books to be exchanged DAILY!
Have a great evening!
Ms. Cokar
