January 27

Good afternoon,

Today was the last day of Mission Impossible and when we tallied up the points, it was a tie! We hope the students enjoyed putting into practice the gymnastics skills they learned the previous two weeks.

The students made a paper bag puppet of Nian, the monster behind Chinese New Year. We discussed patterns and it was great to hear the students discussing and planning before starting to colour/shade. I was proud of students who did not give up as it required very careful cutting. Many students demonstrated Care for Others by helping those who just needed a friend to guide them. I also was impressed by the problem solving; one student cut a piece of that wasn't supposed to be cut and decided to glue it back on. Great job!

Please check your son or daughter's backpack for their report card. Some students thought the report card will tell you if they are "good or bad". I let them know that was not the case, and that report cards share what a student is able to do, what he or she can work on, and how I will help them. We talked about making breakfast, or doing anything for the very first time, and how we probably needed A LOT of guidance. And then as a person practices more and more they improve. We also discussed how some people learn at a different pace (I should share how many times I had to take my driver's test!).

Here is a sneak peak to next week's sight words: and, as, big, let, to. The week following will be a review of the previous weeks' worth of sight words. I encourage the students to use each word in a sentence every day. A great challenge is to try to use the 5 words in one sentence. Do you think you can do this?

Reminders:
January 30: Swim forms and payment due.
January 31: Pillars of Care assembly at 1:45
February 3: No school

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Chinese New Year to our families and friends who are celebrating!
